"The Dread Pirate Roberts" as the Governing Body
by gubberningbody inyou know, i imagine there's some sort of initiation ceremony that's involved with becoming a member of the sanctum sanctorum.
the dewey-eyed sycophants mentored into supporting this imaginary entity - the magical governing body.. .

I think you did right. Don't let the conflict of the religion spoil your day.
If it inspired her, and you know how she feels, I am sure she sits in turmoil at each "experience" of a young JW at the assembly who has given up a scholarship. I know I did. It made me sick and the last few years we were in, I didn't add to the candid "clapping" afterwards. I am sure it eats at her. Let it work on her by itself. It will be her discovery that she can't find a way to defend and may cause the beginning of doubts.
In the meanwhile, you get to have a great day. Enjoy it!

I Have A New Grandson But He's Very Sick :(
by minimus inhe was born yesterday with many complications including breathing problems, possible lung underdevelpment, anemia and body temperature issues.
the poor little guy was hooked up to a breathing tube and tons of monitors.
because the hospitals couldn't handle some of the problems, they sent him and my daughter to the best hospital in boston last night.

We just got back from a three day trip to the Gulf of Mexico! The kids were so much braver in the water than me!
And for the icing on the cake...my daddy will be here for a visit Friday! He didn't stop by when they were close over the winter and they were in Florida because my mother is shunning me. He's making the 850 mile trip all by his lonesome to come see us! Yea!

I think it's nice you extended the hospitality. Young people like this who are thrown out rather than leaving for seeing the wrongs with the religion, seem to be more prone to suicide and "going off the deep end" with drugs, sex and alcohol.
To see someone leave and stay moral individuals will no doubt help him see that leaving WT doesn't equal leaving God.

Not been on for AGES but need to rant
by billie jean ini've not used any boards for a long time because i felt i'd got what i needed from them and felt i needed to 'move on' for want of a better word.
i've just come back from staying at my j.w parents house for a few days (which was long enough) we don't usually bring the subject of 'it' up but the other night i got it all, the bile was out, they were on defensive mode, to the point of shouting, insulting me, telling me that they'll 'cut me off' if they find out i'm apostate, then laughing at me and causing me to actualy feel worthless it was unreal.
i told them i'm an atheist and tried to tell them what the 'truth' does and what it really is but i got absolutely nowhere.

So sorry that you had to endure this. It is so hard to have your family treat you like they are a pack of wolves tearing you apart.
I am glad you are now in a safe place and can come and vent and get some true love and friendship. I usually write my frustrations out in a journal. It helps and I can refer back to it later. (I am keeping it so that our children will know how we were treated in case anyone tries to brainwash them into thinking we were the evil ones!) At the least, these journals along with letters we were sent are my reminders of why we would never go back.
Your post makes me so sad to know your heart was hurt so badly by those you love and traveled and sacrificed to go and visit. I am so sorry.
